Car trackers for a Honda: built-in tracking and theft risk, model by model
No Honda sold in South Africa has built-in tracking: Honda’s South African site and its model pages mention no Honda Connect, app, telematics or tracking, only wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.1 Honda CONNECT, which can track a car, is a service in the Middle East, and its page doesn’t mention South Africa.2
Checked on 27 October 2026 against Honda South Africa’s cars page and the specification sheets for the Amaze, HR-V and CR-V.

Does Honda have built-in tracking?
Not on the cars Honda sells here. Its South African cars page lists five models, the Amaze, Elevate, FIT, HR-V and CR-V.6 The home page, the cars page and the Amaze, HR-V and CR-V pages describe wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and say nothing about Honda Connect, an app, telematics or tracking.1
Remote engine start isn’t tracking either. The Amaze 1.2 Comfort CVT lists “Remote Engine Start” and the CR-V a “Remote Control Engine Starter”, but neither specification sheet says it works through an app, and neither describes any way to find the car.3,5
Is Honda CONNECT available in South Africa?
We found nothing to say it is. Honda’s Middle East news page describes Honda CONNECT, launched for the Accord in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, with geofence and speed alerts, security alerts, live location sharing and vehicle tracking, remote locking and unlocking, and remote engine start. That page doesn’t mention South Africa, and Honda South Africa’s pages don’t mention Honda CONNECT.1,2
Are Hondas targeted by thieves in South Africa?
No Honda appears on the lists we checked: Fidelity’s lists of February 2025 and February 2026, King Price’s top 10 for 2026 and AutoTrader’s 2026 ranking.7,8,9,10 We also found no report describing how Hondas are stolen here.
The Amaze, HR-V and CR-V are keyless
The specification sheets for the Amaze, HR-V and CR-V each have a security section listing an alarm system, an ECU immobiliser, a power door-locking switch, auto door locking, walk-away auto locking and smart keyless entry.3,4,5
A keyless key is the kind fob relaying goes after. Toyota South Africa has described that method as using “receivers and transmitters to remotely read the vehicle’s security key while in the possession of the owner”.11 Pineapple says “Putting your car keys in a metal tin or aluminium foil can block the signal between the key and the vehicle”, if the lid closes “tightly without leaving gaps”.12 Our guide to keyless car theft goes further.
Honda Amaze
The Amaze starts at R256,800 and comes as the 1.2 Trend manual, the Comfort manual and the Comfort CVT.13 All three have smart keyless entry with push to start, an ECU immobiliser and an alarm system, and only the Comfort CVT adds remote engine start. Its 8-inch display offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and nothing that reports where the car is.3
Honda CR-V
One CR-V is sold, the 2.0 RS e:HEV AWD CVT, from R949,900. Honda’s page says its “Smart Keyless Entry with Walk-Away Locking lets the key stay in your pocket”.14 The 2026 specification sheet adds a start/stop button, an ECU immobiliser, an alarm system and a power tailgate “with Walk Away Close & Locking”, and its 9-inch touchscreen runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.5 At that price, check what your insurer asks for before you collect it.
Honda Civic and Ballade
Neither is in Honda South Africa’s current range: the cars page lists neither, and the old Ballade page now sends you to the cars page.6 With no current South African specifications to check, we can’t say what security an older Civic or Ballade came with. Whatever it has, a fitted tracker with a recovery service is the way to track one now, and the form below covers both.
What to fit to a Honda
A tracker with a recovery service, kept active. Insurers that require one can also set conditions on its upkeep: Pineapple’s policy says “the service agreement of tracking and recovery services must be maintained” and “the tracking unit must be tested regularly”.15
Our deals start from R99pm for a wireless recovery unit, or R149pm for a full insurance-approved tracker. Free installation, 36-month contract.
