Car trackers for a Mazda: built-in tracking and theft risk, model by model
No Mazda sold in South Africa has built-in tracking. Mazda’s connectivity page covers MZD Connect and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and nothing on its site or in its August 2026 price list mentions connected services, a tracker or tracking.1,2,3
Checked on 27 October 2026 against Mazda Southern Africa’s site, its specs-and-compare tables and its August 2026 price list.

Mazda’s specs table shows keyless entry as a tick on some grades and as “Smart” on others, and doesn’t say how the two differ, so ask the dealer which key your car has.
Does Mazda have built-in tracking?
Not in South Africa. Mazda’s connectivity page says “Your Mazda is equipped with MZD Connect”, and what it goes on to describe is smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It doesn’t mention a Mazda app, connected services, remote functions or the car’s location.1
The rest of the site agrees. The home page, the owners menu and the FAQ never mention telematics or a tracker, and what comes with a new Mazda is a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, a service plan of five years (three on the Mazda2 and CX-3) and five years of roadside assistance, with no tracker among them.2 The price list effective from 1 August 2026 doesn’t mention tracking either.3
What security does a Mazda come with?
Mazda is consistent here. Its specs-and-compare table ticks an engine immobiliser, a burglar alarm system and push start ignition as standard on every grade of the Mazda2, Mazda3, CX-3, CX-30, CX-5 and CX-60. The CX-3, CX-30, CX-5 and CX-60 add a super lock system on every grade; the Mazda2 and Mazda3 don’t have it.4
None of that tracks the car. An immobiliser and an alarm make it harder to take a parked Mazda without its key; they don’t say where it went if someone drives off with it.
Are Mazdas targeted in South Africa?
Not according to the lists. Our research checked more than 20 South African lists and reports from 2025 and 2026, including Fidelity ADT’s, King Price’s, AutoTrader’s and MasterDrive’s, and none names a Mazda.9,10,11,12 We also found no report of how Mazdas are stolen here.
Mazda2
The Mazda2 comes as the 1.5 Active Edition, the Dynamic Edition automatic and the Individual Edition automatic, with MZD Connect and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Keyless entry is ticked on the first two and shown as “Smart” on the Individual, and every version has remote central locking with two transmitters.4
Mazda3
Three Mazda3 grades are listed: the 1.5 Dynamic Edition manual and automatic, and the 2.0 Astina Edition automatic. The Astina’s keyless entry is the “Smart” kind; the Dynamic grades get a tick. Its phone link is wireless Apple CarPlay.4
Mazda CX-3
The CX-3 runs from the 2.0 Active Edition to the Individual, all automatic. The Active has ticked keyless entry and the Dynamic, Carbon Edition and Individual have “Smart”; the brochure’s Dynamic page calls it “KEYLESS SMART ENTRY”.4,5
Mazda CX-60
The CX-60 comes as the 2.5 Dynamic Edition in rear-wheel drive, the 2.5 Individual Edition and the 3.3 DE Takumi Edition in all-wheel drive. Every grade has “Smart” keyless entry and the super lock system.4 Its page offers “Always connected to Android Auto”, which is about your phone, not about finding the car.6
Mazda BT-50
Mazda stopped importing the BT-50 double cab for South Africa in 2024, blaming an “extremely challenging landscape for imported vehicles, competing directly with locally manufactured products”. It said it would “continue to support BT-50 with all service, repair, and replacement parts”.7 The bakkie no longer appears on Mazda’s site or price list.3
At its 2021 launch, the BT-50’s connectivity was wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Active grade had remote keyless entry, carried up to the Dynamic and Individual.8 TopAuto listed automatic door locking and a tailgate lock across the range.13 Neither launch report mentions an immobiliser or alarm.
What to fit to a Mazda
A tracker with a recovery service. Every current Mazda starts with a button and has keyless entry, so look after the key as well as the car. The risk with keyless keys is fob relaying, which Toyota South Africa described as using “receivers and transmitters to remotely read the vehicle’s security key while in the possession of the owner”.14 Our guide to keyless car theft covers what blocks it.
One tracker is often enough. Naked says “you’re free to use any reputable provider, as long as it includes vehicle recovery”, and adds: “We don’t require multiple devices or separate early-warning systems.”15
Our deals start from R99pm for a wireless recovery unit, or R149pm for a full insurance-approved tracker. Free installation, 36-month contract.
