Car trackers for a Mahindra: built-in tracking and theft risk, model by model
A Mahindra Pik Up needs a tracker fitted after you buy it: neither the single cab nor the double cab brochure lists tracking or an app that locates the bakkie.1,2 Mahindra’s Mzanzi owners app books services, calls roadside assistance and finds dealers, but lists no vehicle location, and Mahindra’s brochures list no built-in tracking on its other models either.3
Checked on 27 October 2026 against Mahindra South Africa’s brochures for the Pik Up, Scorpio-N, XUV 3XO and Bolero MaXX, and its app and Theftbuster pages.
| Model | Tracking listed | Keyless | Immobiliser | Alarm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pik Up single cab | None1 | Keyless entry on the S6 only1 | Digital immobiliser, all five versions1 | An “anti-theft warning system”, trims not stated1 |
| Pik Up double cab | None2 | Not listed2 | Digital immobiliser, every version2 | Not listed2 |
| Scorpio-N | None4 | Push-button start from the Z84 | Not listed4 | Not listed4 |
| XUV 3XO | None5 | Passive keyless entry and push start from the AX55 | Not listed5 | Not listed5 |
| Bolero MaXX | None6 | Not listed6 | Not listed6 | Not listed6 |
“Not listed” means Mahindra’s brochure doesn’t mention the feature, not that the vehicle lacks it, so ask the dealer.
Does the Mahindra Pik Up have a tracker?
No. The single cab brochure, dated October 2025, covers the S4 Dropside, S4 4x2 and 4x4, and S6 4x2 and 4x4. It lists a digital immobiliser on all five, “an engine immobiliser with encrypted key recognition” that “prevents unauthorised access”, and says “An anti-theft warning system adds an extra layer of protection for peace of mind” without saying which versions have it. Keyless entry and central locking come on the S6 only. There is no tracking or app in it, apart from a note that “The new mzanzi app is now available”.1
The double cab brochure of September 2026 covers the S6, the S6 automatic and the S11, in 4x2 and 4x4. All have a digital immobiliser and central locking, and none lists keyless entry, an alarm or tracking.2
A Pik Up hijacking in the North West
In September 2025, IOL reported that “a Mahindra S6 Karoo bakkie” was “hijacked during a house robbery in the Boiketlong policing area in the North West”. Police found it in a garage in Shitlhelani village, Malamulele, in Limpopo, after a tip-off, and a suspect was charged with “possession of suspected stolen property”. The report doesn’t mention a tracker.7 The Karoo is a special edition of the Pik Up double cab.8
It is one case, not a trend, and by the time it was found the bakkie had crossed from the North West into Limpopo.
The Mzanzi app and Theftbuster aren’t trackers
Mahindra’s Mzanzi Owners App lets you “Book services online, access one-tap roadside support, compare transparent pricing, track your logbook, locate dealers and repairers, and share feedback”. Nothing in its feature list finds the vehicle, locks it remotely or alerts you to a theft.3
Theftbuster Key Care, which Mahindra sells for a once-off payment, is cover rather than a device. After a hijacking, smash-and-grab or theft it pays benefits such as “Up to R10 000 insurance excess cover”, “Up to R20 000 vehicle key replacement” and “Up to R40 000 lockset replacement”. It doesn’t locate or recover the vehicle.9
Are Mahindras targeted in South Africa?
No Mahindra is on the lists we checked: Fidelity’s for 2025 and 2026, King Price’s top 10 for 2026 and AutoTrader’s 2026 ranking.10,11,12,13 Apart from the Karoo case, we found no report of how Mahindras are stolen here.
Mahindra Scorpio-N
The Scorpio-N starts at R489 999 and comes as the Z4 automatic, the Z8 automatic and the Z8L 4x4 automatic.14 Its May 2026 brochure gives push-button start to every Z8 but not the Z4, and lists no keyless entry, immobiliser, alarm, app or tracking.4
Mahindra XUV 3XO
The XUV 3XO starts at R259 999, from the MX2 to the AX7 Luxury, and comes with free roadside assistance for the warranty period.15 The MX2 has a remote key; the AX5 adds passive keyless entry and push-button start, which the AX5 Luxury and AX7 Luxury keep. The brochure’s only connectivity is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging, and it lists no immobiliser or alarm.5
Mahindra Bolero MaXX
The Bolero is now sold as the Bolero MaXX: the City Pik Up 1.3T and 1.5T and the 1.7T HD. Its July 2026 brochure mentions only the owners app, “roadside assistance, bookings, dealers, logbook & more”, and lists no keyless entry, immobiliser or alarm.6
The best tracker for a Mahindra Pik Up
The one your insurer accepts, with a recovery service behind it. Policies can make that a condition: Discovery Insure’s plan guide excludes theft or hijack “where the vehicle is not fitted with security or tracking recovery devices as stated in the Plan Schedule”.16 So check your schedule before you choose, and if the bakkie works for a business, choose Business in the form for a fleet quote.
Our deals start from R99pm for a wireless recovery unit, or R149pm for a full insurance-approved tracker. Free installation, 36-month contract.
